Selection Criteria

The Oak Creek Safe Space Scholarship is an academic and service scholarship that is provided by the Oak Creek Scholarship Foundation Inc. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize the academic and service achievements of a student at Oak Creek High School who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Eligibility 

The following criteria shall be used to determine eligibility for the scholarship:

  1. The applicant is currently an Oak Creek High School student.
  2. The applicant identifies as LGBTQ+.
  3. The applicant graduates the year that the scholarship is awarded.
  4. The applicant will be attending college the following academic year unless enlisted in the United States military.

Selection Criteria 

        The Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient of the scholarship based on the above-eligibility criteria. Additionally, the recipient shall have strong academic achievements (cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above) and be proactive in making Oak Creek High School a safe space for LGBTQ+ students. The Scholarship Committee will consider the following in determining proactiveness:


  1. Promotes equality of LGBTQ+ students at Oak Creek High School.
  2. Promotes acceptance of LGBTQ+ students at Oak Creek High School.
  3. Increases understanding and recognition of the importance of Oak Creek High School being a safe space for LGBTQ+ students.
  4. Creates a safe space for LGBTQ+ students at Oak Creek High School.
  5. Is an active member of the Oak Creek High School Gay-Straight Alliance.
  6. Promotes the Oak Creek High School Gay-Straight Alliance.
  7. Increases participation in and visibility of the Oak Creek High School Gay-Straight Alliance.
  8. Creates partnerships between the Oak Creek High School Gay-Straight Alliance and other organizations.
  9.  Serves as a role model for all students at Oak Creek High School.
  10. Creates an academic and social support network for LGBTQ+ students at Oak Creek High School.
